Finasteride (0.005%): Low-dose topical finasteride is used to treat female pattern hair loss (or androgenic alopecia) by reducing the levels of DHT (dihydrotestosterone) in the scalp. DHT is a hormone that can cause hair follicles to shrink and result in hair shedding and thinning. By blocking the enzyme responsible for converting testosterone into DHT, topical finasteride can slow down hair loss, promote hair regrowth, and minimize systemic side effects.

Minoxidil (5%): Minoxidil (5%): Topical minoxidil is an FDA-approved hair loss treatment. It directly stimulates hair growth at the follicle, promoting vasodilation and extending the hair growth phase, leading to thicker, healthier hair.

Tretinoin (0.01%): Tretinoin is a topical medication primarily used to promote skin renewal. It works by unclogging pores, and stimulating collagen production, which may help with medication absorption and hair regrowth.

Melatonin (0.1%): Topical melatonin is used in hair loss treatments due to its antioxidant and its ability to soothe and calm the scalp, which can protect hair follicles from damage, reduce irritation in the scalp, and stimulate hair follicles. It may also enhance blood circulation to the scalp and potentially extend the growth phase of hair.

Roller: Roll across the affected area of the scalp 5 times total (equivalent to 1ml), once daily.

Dropper
: Apply 1 ml of solution to affected areas of the scalp, once daily.

FAQ

Finoxidil™ is best suited for women who are postmenopause, or with no child bearing potential and dealing with hair loss, thinning, shedding, and/or weakening of existing hair. If you have not yet reached menopause, or can have children, Spiroxidil™ might be a better fit for you.*

Do not use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning to become pregnant.

Tangl treatments are not appropriate for some types of hair loss, including inflammatory/scarring types of hair loss (scarring, or cicatricial alopecia). If you have active symptoms of inflammation on your scalp (pain, redness, severe itching, active rash, sores, pus bumps) it is advised that you get in person evaluation and treatment to control these symptoms prior to starting hair loss therapy.

*Always follow the physician-prescribed medication that is suited for your condition

No, you should not use topical Spiroxidil if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant.

Finoxidil™ is a compounded medication prescribed for topical use in postmenopausal women with hair loss. As a compound, it blends multiple active ingredients to create a tailored treatment that targets different aspects of hair loss.

The main ingredients in Finoxidil™ are Finasteride and Minoxidil. Finasteride is an anti-androgen that blocks the formation of DHT (dihydrotestosterone), a male hormone known to contribute to hair thinning and loss by shrinking hair follicles and shortening the growth phase. By inhibiting the production of DHT, Finasteride helps to preserve existing hair and, in some cases, stimulates the growth of new, thicker hair.

Minoxidil is an FDA-approved hair loss treatment that stimulates hair growth by promoting blood flow and extending the hair growth phase. Together, these ingredients create a powerful combination for treating androgenetic alopecia and female hair loss, leading to the preservation of existing hair and the stimulation of new, thicker hair growth.

Finoxidil™ is also enhanced with Tretinoin to promote scalp renewal and improve medication absorption, and Melatonin for its antioxidant properties and ability to soothe and calm the scalp. This comprehensive blend of ingredients makes Finoxidil™ a powerful treatment for various types of hair loss in postmenopausal women.

Topical finasteride, one of the ingredients in Finoxidil™ typically produces fewer systemic side effects compared to oral finasteride because it is applied directly to the scalp and primarily acts locally, reducing the potential for the medication to affect the whole body systemically while maintaining similar results.

Women can experience hair loss due to various factors, including genetics, hormonal changes (such as menopause, PCOS, birth control changes, and postpartum), medical conditions (like thyroid disorders and autoimmune diseases), nutritional deficiencies, stress, damaging hairstyling practices, certain medications, aging, and trauma. The most common forms of hair loss in women are Androgenetic Alopecia (a genetic condition causing thinning hair and pattern baldness) and Telogen Effluvium (temporary hair shedding due to stress, illness, surgery, shock to the system, or other transient factors, which can sometimes become chronic or even unmask underlying Androgenetic Alopecia). The specific cause varies and often requires evaluation by a healthcare professional to determine the underlying reason and appropriate treatment options.

The good news is that we're here to help. At Tangl, we're committed to developing the most advanced, thoroughly vetted, and carefully curated treatments to provide a personalized solution for your unique hair journey.

Hair growth is a slow process and it can take several months to see substantial results. It can take 3 to 6 months to evaluate the effects of your topical Spiroxidil™ treatment, but for some patients the full effect may only be visible after 7-12 months. It is important to stay on the medication and follow your doctor's instructions for best results.

It's very common to experience increased hair shedding when starting this treatment. This is sometimes referred to as the “Dread Shed”, but is medically known as "immediate telogen release.” It refers to an increased shedding of hair that individuals notice within 1-3 months of starting a new treatment for hair loss. Shedding is a positive sign that the treatment is working, is typically a temporary phase as hair follicles regenerate, and generally leads to better hair quality and density. Shedding varies among patients. For optimal Finoxidil results, avoid damaging hairstyles, tight braids, over-processing, and excessive heat styling.

Always consult your Tangl dermatologist for personalized advice.
